Lena Yoong: From Passion To Profession

Turning dreams into reality at 64, Lena Yoong exemplifies how it’s never too late to embrace new ventures. From teaching yoga to running a cold-pressed juice business, she continues to inspire with her determination and zest for life.

Lena Yoong, 64, is a “proud grandmother of three grandsons” — a fact she never fails to mention whenever we chat with her. She is currently an entrepreneur, dabbling in yoga therapy and a cold-pressed juice business.

Having been a yoga teacher for several years, Lena has guided students of all ages in proper yoga and breathing techniques.

“I’ve enjoyed my time volunteering at SASCO@Khatib in 2019, teaching yoga to many seniors and forging new bonds with them! However, I was disappointed when I couldn’t teach anymore during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

While the pandemic shuttered many businesses, Lena’s yoga business thrived. She moved all her classes online, helping people de-stress while staying home. However, as life returned to normal, business slowed down significantly. Despite this, Lena remains passionate about continuing to teach and hopes to reach a wider audience.

Her juice business, Juice Remedy, started out as a leisure pursuit in making cold-pressed juices. Over time, Lena saw a business opportunity as she realised that this could be a side hustle for her. Her concoctions were well-received by friends, family and customers.

“I was afraid to do this business as I have no experience in managing a business. I was also scared of making losses and failing”

Encouraged by her second daughter, Lena took a leap of faith. Her daughter supported her by handling the initial setup, including designing the product packaging.

However, Lena took charge of customer relations and brand marketing, pouring her creativity into making the business a success.

Juice Remedy now offers over six organic juice flavours which come in two sizes. Lena aspires to continue pursuing her passion and earning a side income in the coming years.

“I’d say this to seniors aspiring to be entrepreneurs, it’s never too late. Don’t be afraid of failure. Just try. Try, or you will never know.”

Lena hopes that her journey inspires other seniors to take chances, seize opportunities, and embrace lifelong learning — because, as Lena believes, the learning never stops.
